New Hazel Green Middle School Improves Student Commutes and Community Connection
July 2, 2025
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Madison County Schools has officially approved the development of a brand-new Hazel Green Middle School. It is a $53 million investment that marks a major milestone for families in the area.
Currently, Hazel Green’s middle school students must travel 10 minutes to Meridianville Middle School, creating logistical challenges for families with children attending Hazel Green High School or Hazel Green Elementary School. The new middle school will be located directly next to both schools, uniting all three on one shared campus.
The upcoming facility will accommodate up to 1,200 students and feature modern educational spaces and athletic fields. Seventh and eighth graders are expected to move into the school in 2027, while Meridianville Middle transitions into an intermediate school.
Meeting the Needs of a Rapidly Expanding CommunityThe new school is a forward-thinking response to the area’s growth, easing pressure on existing campuses while offering a more convenient and connected educational experience for families.
“Legacy Homes is proud to be part of the budding Hazel Green community and are excited for the growth. The new middle school that will be located directly across Memorial Parkway from our Townsend community will be a great addition to the area and will be a great amenity for our families in the community. We look forward to seeing what is next!” – Chris Flamm, Community Sales Manager at Townsend, Legacy Homes
This development will do more than cut commute times. It brings all levels of education into one centralized location: strengthening community ties, simplifying daily routines, and opening new opportunities for student collaboration across grades.
