HERS Rating

Categories: Misc | Posted: August 25, 2014

One of the best methods for comparing homes and their ability to be energy efficient is to look at their HERS score, which is a standardized scoring system recognized by the Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Each Legacy Home passes a rigorous energy-efficient test conducted by a third-party, certified inspector. This gives you the peace of mind that your Legacy Home is energy-efficient and will save you money on energy bills all while protecting the environment. By using the latest technology and building techniques, we are able to accomplish this without sacrificing style, elegance, or craftsmanship.

What is a HERS rating?

Home Energy Rating System, or simply HERS, is a scoring system set by the Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET) to measure a home’s energy efficiency and determine if it meets ENERGY STAR® guidelines. The lower the HERS Index, the more energy efficient the home. A typical resale home score is a 130, which means that if you’re in the market for a home, this house will be significantly less energy efficient than it should be. A typical new home scores 100, which meets current industry standards, and saves $539 a year compared to a used home, but is not working at its optimal efficiency! The average new Legacy Home score is as low as a 68, which is over 30% more efficient than typical new homes, and saves nearly $1,300 a year compared to an existing home. Not only is that good news from a financial point of view, it’s also good news for the environment as 16% of greenhouse gases generated in the U.S. come from homes.

With our advanced building practices and an array of money-saving features from energy-efficient windows to ENERGY STAR® appliances, your heating, cooling, electric, and water costs are reduced, saving tens of thousands of dollars over a 30-year mortgage span!

Legacy Homes’ Energy Efficient Low-E Windows

Categories: Products | Posted: August 18, 2014

Legacy Homes’ floor plans are designed with extra windows so you can enjoy full sunlight and beautiful views. But you can also have the peace of mind knowing that your windows are saving money on utility bills and protecting your furnishings and finishes from sun damage. Your energy-efficient Legacy Home is installed with Low-E, or low emissivity, vinyl windows that are designed to keep the heat out. These ENERGY-STAR® rated windows incorporate a dual-paned, UV-resistant window system of protection that allows sunlight in but keeps heat and harmful UV rays out. With sloped sills for efficient water run-off, Fin-Seal weather stripping to stop air infiltration, and sash tilts for easy cleaning, your windows offer the custom look of a wood window with the maintenance-free performance of a vinyl window.

Energy Savings

Advanced technologies such as invisible UV-resistant glass, improved framing materials, better weather stripping, and warm edge spaces all help to greatly reduce unwanted heat coming into or leaving your home.

Indoor Protection

Photographs, furniture, flooring, and window treatments can easily fade or discolor after repeated exposure to the sun’s harmful UV rays. Low-E windows can reduce fading of interior furniture, flooring, window coverings and paint by up to 75%.

Increased Comfort

ENERGY-STAR®–certified windows help keep homes warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. More of the sun’s heat is blocked from coming indoors during the summer, and your home’s interior heat is reflected back indoors during the winter.

Reduced Condensation

Advanced frames, glass coatings, spaces and other technologies enable your home’s windows to keep the inner surface of the glass and frame warmer, reducing the potential for interior condensation and water pooling on window sills that can cause mold or paint to crack.
